Today we exhibit Adriaen Pietersz. van de Venne, a Dutch Golden Age painter living from 1589 till 1662. He is an artist of genre paintings, allegories, book illustrator and designer.
It Takes Strong Legs to Carry Luxury

Being short of money may be unpleasant, but having too much of it causes its own problems. This drawing is a literal illustration of an Old Dutch saying, which translates as: ‘It takes strong legs to carry luxury’. Moral strength is needed to be able to support the burden of worldly riches.
